SOZO Brain Center Showcases AI-Powered Neurotechnology During Chief Scientist’s Visit

We had the pleasure recently to welcome Chief Scientist Dr. Demetris Skourides for an introductory visit to review our research activities, clinical practices, and international collaborations in the field of neuromodulation and AI-enabled medicine.

The visit formed part of Cyprus’ broader efforts to advance healthcare innovation, engaging with the country’s research and innovation ecosystem and supporting applied research, commercialization, and global partnerships. Due to the significance of this visit, local media published several articles highlighting what a major milestone it is for a Cypriot company to lead the way in pioneering research conducted in Cyprus and in developing technologies such as Agentic AI for use in medical protocols.

Exploring Innovation at the Intersection of Neuroscience and AI

Hosted by SOZO Brain Center CEO Matthew Papadopoulos and brain.space CEO Yair Levy, the visit featured in-depth presentations from SOZO’s multidisciplinary team, which includes over ten neuroscientists and clinicians. Highlights featured presentations on ongoing projects, international partnerships, and a live demonstration of the Brain Sensei AI-powered neurotechnology helmet.

Chief Scientist Dr. Demetris Skourides experienced how real-time neurophysiological data is collected, analyzed, and transformed into actionable insights for clinicians, with full compliance to GDPR and privacy regulations, during the demonstration of the Brain Sensei.

International Research, Global Recognition

The SOZO research department shared their work with the Chief Scientist, highlighting SOZO’s contributions to international scientific dialogue and briefing the Chief Scientist on its medical training programs.

SOZO’s research has been showcased at world-renowned scientific events, including the World Congress of Neurology and the International Neuromodulation Society World Congress. Upcoming publications in peer-reviewed journals will further solidify the center’s global presence in neurotechnology innovation.

Training a Global Network of Neuromodulation Experts

To date, more than 150 doctors from 14 countries have completed SOZO’s specialized neuromodulation training programs. Over 60 clinicians are now certified SOZO Fellows, applying the center’s protocols to treat neurological and mental health conditions in their own practices. Collectively, this international network has already provided care to more than 3,500 patients worldwide.

Strategic Growth Through Research, Education, and Global Partnerships

As part of its long-term strategy, SOZO is advancing three strategic pillars to strengthen global collaboration.

  1. Clinical Trials Center

Aligned with UK and US standards to produce clinical evidence for neuromodulation therapies.

  1. CME-Accredited E-Learning Platform

Providing continuous medical education and certification to healthcare professionals worldwide.

  1. Train-the-Trainer Workshops

Designed to expand the faculty of trainers and scale access internationally.

Through SOZO Partnerships, the brain center has already launched co-branded clinics in major cities including Berlin, Vienna, Melbourne, and Athens, integrating its unique treatment protocols into medical practices across the globe.

Redefining Brain Health from Cyprus to the World

Following the visit, Chief Scientist Demetris Skourides stated, “Cyprus’ research and innovation ecosystem continues to grow stronger through the work of scientists, clinicians, and entrepreneurs who are advancing solutions with global impact”.

“My visit to SOZO Brain Center offered valuable insights into the pioneering research being conducted in Cyprus, the international collaborations being forged, and the ways in which innovation here contributes to the broader scientific and medical community,” he added.

Skourides also stated that, “It is exciting to see how artificial intelligence is being used in healthcare here in Cyprus.”

“SOZO’s commitment to developing technologies such as Agentic AI within medical protocols, and the broader investment by Cypriot innovation companies in building strong R&D capabilities, reflect the ambition of Cyprus’ national Research and Development Strategy 2024–2026,” he stated.

SOZO Brain Center chief executive officer Matthew Papadopoulos said that “it was a privilege to welcome the Chief Scientist and present to him the progress our team has achieved”.

The Future of Agentic AI in Healthcare

In addition, SOZO is working on the development of agentic AI agents in healthcare.

Papadopoulos stated that, “At SOZO, we are advancing a first-of-its-kind agentic AI platform with brain.space, creating global standards in neuromodulation, and building an international network of trained physicians who are already transforming patient care.”

“With clinical trials, new co-branded clinics in major cities, and our CME-accredited e-learning platform, we are scaling innovation from Cyprus to the world,” he said.

“I am personally excited to be part of this journey, as we work to redefine how neurological and mental health conditions are understood and treated globally,” he added.
